How to Make a Hookah

There are several ways to make a hookah, which will vary depending on your preferences. However, some general tips can help you create a great-tasting hookah.

The first step is to prepare the tobacco, or what we call Shisha. This includes sprinkling shisha into the bowl and covering it with foil.

1. Tobacco

There are a lot of parameters that influence the quality of smoke during hookah smoking, such as device model, tobacco type, and bowl size. However, the most important factor is tobacco quality.

When selecting tobacco, choose high-quality leaves and make sure they are not too dry. Dry tobacco will produce very little smoke and won’t taste as good.

Add honey or molasses to the tobacco. The standard ratio is one gram of honey or molasses for every three grams of tobacco.

Glycerin is also an excellent additive to the mixture. It’s an odorless, colorless compound that enhances flavors and creates more smoke clouds.

Finally, add the flavorings of your choice. Try out different hoses to see which suits you best: A sturdy leather hose will absorb a lot of smoke, while a lighter hose cools the smoke and enriches the flavor.

2. Bowl

A bowl is a part that holds the shisha tobacco and makes the smoke that you inhale during your hookah session. The type of bowl you use will determine how much smoke you will get.

You can make a bowl for your hookah using various materials, including fruit and vegetables. However, be careful not to add milk or other dairy products that could grow bacteria in a confined space. Also, avoid adding highly acidic juices or alcohol to your hookah.

Foil is popular for making a bowl because it is inexpensive, easy to find, and safe to use. When making your bowl, it is important to punch holes in the foil that are 2-3 mm apart. This will help the shisha heat evenly and not burn in some areas. You can also try using a heat management device to improve your hookah experience by having denser clouds of smoke.

3. Stem

A hookah stem is an essential part of the entire smoking experience. A quality stem will provide superior airflow and a great fit for your base or vase. You can choose from a variety of designs and materials. Many newer models also feature click-lock mechanisms and silicone ports. They may even have telescoping capabilities and a molasses catcher.

A small device that can greatly enhance your shisha session is the diffuser. This small piece of metal breaks down large particles in the smoke before it enters your water-cooled hose. This reduces rumbling noises and enhances the density of your smoke.

Ensure the rubber base grommet fits your metal stem and is inserted into the bottom of the glass base/vase. If it doesn’t, you will have a gap where the air can escape during use. Similarly, make sure that a corresponding rubber gasket seals the hose port.

4. Hose

If you want to smoke a hookah, you must get a good quality one. You must also clean it properly before and after each use.

The hose should be able to give you thick smoke. If not, you can try changing the hose for a better one. A small hose restricts air flow and may influence the flavor of your smoke.

You can choose various exciting hoses from our shop that come in various shapes. From the outlandish Dragon to the more traditional Taj hose, you can find the perfect one for your needs.

Fill the glass vase at the hookah’s base with cool water, ensuring it covers 1 inch of the metal stem or slightly more to leave room for air. The water dilutes the smoke and makes it easier to draw on the hose. You can add ice to your hookah for a more cooling effect, but be careful not to overfill it as it can lead to leaks.
